Mojave Memorial Cross

This morning, I read that the Mojave memorial cross has been stolen. For those who don’t know the cross’s history (especially its legal history), read it here.

I just want to say that it’s an odious symbol, it is in no way secular, and it’s entirely inappropriate, but it should not have been desecrated.

The people who did this are total fucking assholes.

If it is maintained by volunteers on land owned by a public, non-government run veteran’s organization, as the article seems to imply, and the Supreme Court says it is not in violation of separation of church and state, how on earth can anyone find fault with it?

And even if the organization is government run so what? There are crosses in military veteran’s graveyards, aren’t there? Would this be so different?

I understand disliking the cross, but not the desecration.

I meant to write ‘private’ not public up there.

Anyway, I am the opposite. I do not understand disliking the cross, but can see the appeal of desecrating it.
