Hitler was a member of a political party. This does not mean that all members of political parties are mass murderers, even though in this day and age it seems like they are.

The Weather Underground were hippies. This does not mean that all hippies are terrorists, even though in this day and age it seems like they are.

A crazy guru stomps on children. This does not mean all religious people stomp on children, even though in this day and age it seems like they do.

To make things clear, I am not a member of a political party, I am not a hippy, and I am not religious. I am simply a person who believes in Voltaire’s maxim,

“I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it. “

To paraphrase Stephen Weinberg – Good people will always do good things, bad people will always do bad things, but religion makes good people do bad things.

Anyhow, it’s an obvious exaggeration to implicate every member of every religion because one asshole (and some asshole parents) think it’s cool for him to stomp on babies.
