D.C. Council Approves Gay Marriage

December 15, 2009

Washington, D.C. is a step closer to marriage equality. By a vote of 11 to 2, the city council approved a bill extending marriage rights to all D.C. couples.  After Mayor Adrian Fenty signs the bill, it is subject to a 30-day period of review by the U.S. Congress.  No serious roadblocks are expected before the bill becomes law in the spring.

Of course, a decision that extends civil rights to homosexuals is bound to attract the ire of superstitious goons who think that institutionalized bigotry is acceptable if it can be tied to the teachings of their chosen mythological texts.  Well, fuck ’em.  They lost today.
