Jesus Loves a Liar
The Community Issues Council put up a series of billboards in Florida claiming that the separation of church and state is a myth propagated by evil commie atheists like me. To this end, they use quotations by luminaries from American history, including this one:
Sounds nice, huh? Only problem is – Washington never said that.
If you think the CIC people are guilty only of poor fact checking, think again. This article makes clear that the brains behind the billboard knows that it’s full of shit:
I don’t believe there’s a document in Washington’s handwriting that has those words in that specific form,” Kemple told the St. Petersburg Times. “However, if you look at Washington’s quotes, including his farewell address, about the place of religion in the political sphere, there’s no question he could have said those exact words.
So this asshole admits that he’s making shit up, yet tries to defend it on the grounds that he knows what Washington could have said. Washington could have said those exact words? Could have?!? I could have banged Padma Lakshmi during a coke-fueled weekend in Vegas, but since I didn’t, I won’t put up a fucking billboard about it. Two can play at this game:
“I hate miserable, lying cunts like Terry Kemple.”
